Allan

Monique and I share such a uniquely different background from each other.  It was amazing to me that we just clicked right away.  My family is from Guyana; hers from Puerto Rico and Jamaica.  I was born in the Bronx, but I grew up moving to Long Island and she has lived in Queens all her life. She loves Salsa and I love Rap. Monique and her friends were always quiet on campus and my group of friends were pretty loud.  I loved to go out and she loved to stay in.  The cliché saying opposites attract would yet again reign supreme. We are the perfect balance for each other and even with our different qualities, our souls felt somehow the same.  We value life, love, and family on the same internal accord. The world trains people to run away from differences but my spirit held on because inside I knew from day one something was special.  Our relationship began forming its own definition and both of us were letting it happen fluid without letting our ego or emotions get in the way. Just enjoying every day that turned into months and then into years. Time has taught us so much and to this day we both recognize the value of our different qualities in making each other’s lives better each day.  College put us together but our relationship began a course in chemistry that we both have learned so much from today.  I love Monique and today she really is my best friend. We have mutual respect and understanding for each other. These qualities almost don't exist in the world anymore. I’m happy to be creating our own world together.

Allan and I are the epitome of opposites attracting. Allan is an outgoing, fun loving, amazingly creative with an infectious laugh.  On the other hand, I am more low-key and would rather spend quality time at home with family and pets or perfecting my asanas in yoga class. In the past 10 years, as our love and friendship has flourished, we have been able to grow together as well. He has been able to appreciate a quiet night at home and because of Allan I’ve discovered the beauty of expanding my social circle. Birds of a feather flock together and with Allan being my best friend, it was only a matter of time his amazing qualities rubbed off on me and vice versa. We spend our days laughing at the silliest things ever but we know we have a confidant in each other as well. We are blessed to have each other, sharing the same fundamental values and embracing our differences. As we start this new chapter in our lives, words cannot describe how excited I am to this with my best friend.
